Pan Fried Tofu

Pan Fried Tofu

Ingredients

  • Firm tofu — 1 block (14 oz)
  • Corn starch — approximately 2-3 tablespoons
  • Optional: cayenne pepper (use sparingly, very spicy)

Soy scallion sauce:

  • Soy sauce — 3 tablespoons
  • Korean chili flakes (gochugaru) — 2-3 teaspoons
  • Garlic clove — 1, minced
  • Toasted sesame seeds — 2 teaspoons
  • Sesame oil — 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions — 1 tablespoon chopped

Instructions

  1. The trick is to dry the tofu well. Cover entire tofu block with paper towel to dry out excess water. Put a pan on top and let sit for 15 minutes.
  2. Cut tofu into 1-0.5” pieces.
  3. Put corn starch and sprinkle of cayenne pepper into a bowl.
  4. Heat pan with oil (avocado oil preferred). When hot, dip both sides of tofu into the corn starch mixture and put on pan, leaving space in between.
  5. Let tofu pan fry untouched for 6-7 minutes on one side. Turn and cook the other side for approximately 4 minutes.
  6. Remove and serve with dipping sauce.
